Return to Northeastern
The impact of war on Northeastern rarely ended with the cessation of hostilities. In the years immediately following each war, campus life would be dominated by returning servicemen. This was especially true following World War II for over 50 percent of student enrollment in the early 1950s were United States ex-military personnel returning to finish their education.
In response to the influx of returning WWII veterans, the University established the Veterans Office in Richards Hall to assist veteran students with any issues or problems as they re-integrated into college life.

TUTORING Any student who needs tutoring in his studies in preparation for condition examinations should apply to the Dean of Students Office, 358R, or to the head of the department concerned for suggestions as to available tutors . Collection of payment for tutoring is arranged by the student and the tutor. This arrangement between the two is a private one for which the University assumes no responsibility. VETERANS SERVICES Veterans Office All university records pertaining to the Veterans Administration are maintained in Room 250 Richards Hall . It is hoped that a veteran who has any questions or desires any assistance will feel free to visit this office and discuss his problems. This office is a function of Northeastern University, offered as a service to veteran students. Office hours on weekdays are 8:45A.M. to 5:00P.M. and 6:ooP.M . to 8:ooP.M . daily . All V.A. forms are available in the Veterans Office. Eligibility Responsibility for establishing eligibility rests with the veteran. The Veterans Office (25oR) will assist you in any way possible. Registration procedure Every eligible veteran must attend the Veterans Registration meeting held on the morning of Registration, the first day of each school term. Time and place of this meeting will be announced by the registration officer who is in charge of your academic registration and will also be posted on the Veterans Office Bulletin Board, beside 25oR. Full information about benefits, the regulations with which you must comply while in training, and the forms which you are required to submit will be available at this meeting. 28 Special Caution to Veterans •J There are thousands of veterans enrolled in Northeastern Universitv. The volume of clerical work involved in handling all of these individual cases is tremendous. Every veteran individually can help very materially to prevent errors in his own case by observing the following precautions: 1. Learn your C-number, and make sure it is always given on every letter or form you send to the V.A. 2. Print or write legibly. J. Read and follow instructions carefully in filling out all forms; always print your last name first. 4· Read the bulletin board outside of 25oR regularly. WORK FOR STUDENTS Co-operative Work The Co-operative Plan on which Northeastern operates is described in detail in the University Catalog and in the Co-op Handbook which is issued to all Northeastern students in the freshman year. A series of orientation meetings is held for all freshmen during the year for the purpose of elaborating upon the details of the Co-operative Plan and answering questwns. Part-time Work Students who are interested in the possibilities of securing part-time employment should get in touch with Mr. Paul Dube in Office 253R. FACILITIES ATHLETIC FIELD The Northeastern University Athletic Field is located on Kent Street in Brookline. A practice area is maintained in the North Parking Area. 29

In 1950, Northeastern graduated three separate senior classes, each with its own activities and yearbook. These classes were made up largely of servicemen who had completed some requirements before the war, built up transferable credit during their service, and had only a few classes to take to fulfill graduation requirements.
On 1 May 1954, at the request of the Boston Office of Veterans Administration, Northeastern opened the Veterans Guidance Center on Mt. Vernon St. The new center offered counseling and vocational guidance services for returning veterans.
